Frequently Asked Questions
What types of vehicles can be donated?
We accept all types of running and non-functioning car donations. Trucks, motorcycles, boats, snowmobiles, planes, heavy machinery, trailers and RVs are accepted on a case-by-case basis. If you have questions about a vehicle you’d like to donate, call us at (877) 957-2277.
Do I need a title to donate my car?
Most car donations require a clear title. If you can’t find your title, you’ll have to apply for a duplicate title through your state’s DMV. When you donate your car to The Endowment Project, you’ll sign your title over to our processing agent, Advanced Remarketing Services. You will print and sign your name as the seller. If you have questions about filling out your title, give us a call at (877) 957-2277.
Do I need to notify my state’s DMV when I donate a car?
When you donate a car, please remove all registration stickers and return your plates to your state’s DMV with a completed plate surrender application. This should be done once your car is picked up.
How much money will The Endowment Project receive from my car donation?
Our processing partner, Advanced Remarketing Services, returns on average 80% of the gross proceeds from the sale of your car donation back to The Endowment Project, the highest of any vehicle donation program!
Will I receive a tax receipt?
Yes! Within 30 days of the sale of your vehicle, you will receive an email with a tax receipt for your car donation. The amount that is tax-deductible is equal to the sale price of your vehicle. If your car sold for less than $500, you can claim the fair market value of the vehicle up to $499. If your vehicle sells for more than $500 and you want to claim the full amount when itemizing taxes, an IRS Form 1098-C, Contributions of Motor Vehicles, Boats, and Airplanes will be mailed to you. This form will be your tax receipt for your vehicle donation. Please consult with your tax advisor on the best way to claim The Endowment Project car donation tax deduction.
